Arrival ofthe s,s. Storm Bird.

THE N.Z.S.N. Co.'s e.s. Storm Bird, Doile, left Wellington on the 30th Mny, oncl arrived in the Ahuriri roadstead at 8 p.m. on the 31st ; experiencedfiiie weather wich variable winds all tbe.vvay.. . She entered the Iron Pot at 7'_o a.m. on the Ist June. She was tbe bearer of the Napier portion of the last Ene"-

lish mail ; and. also, brought goods transshipped from Melbourne and Lundon. She left again yesterday morning at about 7 o'clock. Arrival ofthe p.s. Luna. Tho General Government p.s. Luna, left Auckland on tho 21st May, and arrived at Tauranga the next day ; loft there on the 23rd, and called at Mukutu, Matata, Opotiki, 1 Whakatane, Poverty Bay, and several other places. She rounded the East Cape on the evening of the 28th, and arrived in tho Iron pot on tho .list. The cabin accommodation of this line steamer ia unexceptionable, and extremely roomy. She called at numerous places on tho coast, shifting constabulary, and picking up native witnesses. It seems at every place she went the Defeuco Minister was received with tho greatest enthusiasm and pleasure, and not the slightest difficulty, was found in gettiDg a large number of witnesses together. Natives from remote and almost inaccessible parts of the country, came at extremely short notice. This vessel oan carry a large number of troops at a time ; a kind of vessel the Government has wanted a long time. , She can be taken anywhere the Sturt went, proved by her entering Opotiki river, with no more trouble. She can attain the same speed by only burning the same quantity of ooal, and iv cases of emergency Capt, Fairchild will knock 15 knots out of her. A great desideratum is thus supplied, and no doubt the Government has done well in securing a steamer so suited to their every want. We are very pleased to see Captain JFuirchild her commander, one who has worked so hard, so well, and so zealously for the good of his adopted country.
