Sib, —As a regular sdbscriber to, and admirer of your valuable paper, besides being a warm supporter of the present Ministry, t'j whom beyond all doubt, save in the eyes of a few misguided and disappointed persons, New Zealand owes a debt of everlasting gratitude, I would beg to point out the very questionable policy and extremely bad taste exhibited in the appearance of such contributions as have lately come to hand from your Aucklaud. correspondent, in whom can be easily recognised the author of the effusions from Poverty Bay, which were equally objectionable to the majority of your readers. The fulsome praise he hns continually bestowed on the Hon. tbe Defence Minister, ' in particular, must be most distasteful to that gentleman, whose real worth requires no such tt.bliiuo.iy in his favour, whilst the interests of your otherwise well-conducted paper must suffer materially if its columns are occupied, as I, in common with a large number of your subscribers, sincerely regret to see they have been of late, by these epistles. —l am, &c, Hawke's Bay.
