Arrival of s.s. Rangatira.
The s s, Rangatira, left Napier for Auckland, via Poverty Bay (with a number of men for the new settlement of Ormond) on the 2nd instant, find arrived at Poverty Bay the same day at 5 p.m , having experienced a nasty cross swell, making from the S.E., crossing the bay. Landed passengers and cargo, and steamed across to Wherowhero same night. Landed sheep next morning, and returned to Turanganui river, and landed luggage, &o. Left Poverty Bay at noon on the 3rd, and experienced light winds from the southward as far as East Cape, and thence to Auckland stiff W.S.W. winds. Arrived at about 10 p.m. on the 4th ; landed and took in cargo ; and left again on the 7th, at 3 lo p.m. Experienced fine weather down to Poverty Bay, arriving there on the Btb, at 11.30 p.m. Left next day at noon, with several passengers for Napier, and arrived in the roadstead at 8.30 p.m. same day, entering the Iron Pot on Sunday at 2 p.m. She left for Opotiki at 9 p.m. same night, under orders from Government. She was coaling the greater part of Sunday afternoon.
