Accident to the Wild Duck.
We learn from Captain Toke, of the Muriwai, the following particulars:— The Wild Duck arrived at Poverty Bay on the 6th at 5 p.m. and anchored under Young Nick's Head. She took up this position because of tho heavy swell rolling in, the wind blowing from the southward. At 10 p.m. same day stood out to sea. At G a.m. on the following day (7th) came to anchor again under Youug Nick's Head. Got under weigh on the Bth and stood for the mouth of the Turauganui river, the sea running high at tho time. Owing to the beacon being away she missed the channel, and went on to the rocks on the eastern side of the mouth of tho river, close to the house of Archdeacon Williams. She was observed to strike pretty heavily, and the crews of the different vessels then in harbor went to (he assistance of Captain Martin, Captain Kennedy, of the Tawera, took his boat with the Muriwai's anchor, ran it through the breakers and dropped it out as far as possible. This was not done without a great deal of difficulty and danger ; the boat filled the first time and had to come 4>ack T!^ea^bey4xut-o^ba^ecQad,tifijenSKitb, c the Colonises boat and succeeded. The cattle were all landed safely in the afternoon. She lost her false keel shortly after going on the rocks. Everything has been taken out to lighten her, but, up to the time of the departure of the Muriwai, they had not been able to get the vessel off.
