The s.B. Rangatira left Auokland at 3 p.m. last Friday for this port; experienced light variable winds and fine weatner throughout tbe passage, and arrived in the roadstead last Sunday at 12.30 p.m. She reports having sighted the Star of the South, bound to Auckland from Wangawehi, off White Island, at 10 a.m. on Saturday lai3t. The s.s. Rangatira steamed south at 3.30* p.m. last Sunday, with the Bupplementaxy lEnglish mail, to be forwarded per s.s. Tar arua, which vessel is appointed to leave Well ington this day. She discharged her inward cargo, and took in her Napier cargo. The iron ketch Why Not, tbe property of Mr. B. Warnes, arrived in the harbor from Wellington last Saturday about 2 ip.m., with 1 a general cargo. She experienced at times heavy squalls on her passage up. The schooner Hero, after being nearly rebuilt, will, we are happy to state, aoon be ready for sea again, and put on her oJd berth of coasting. The cutter Mahia, now undergoing sundry minor repairs, will soon be ready for her port for the wool season. The brigantine Esther still remains in port waiting her coast orders. During her stay here she has beea repainted, and her rigging set up afresh. The Star of the South was to have left Auckland for tbis port yesterday, and so may be looked for to-morrow. She was sighted by the s.s. Rangatira on the 30th, on her way to Auckland from the coast, Owing to yesterday being a holiday at the customs, the Why Not and Maggia axe not reported.
