WAIPAWA.

faftoit A <s<JAßiJsi?ditoStfi!.;) October 29, 1360. The inauguration of the 'Empire' of Waipawa is another step in the right direction towards raising that township to the position of an important provincial centre of communication between the numerous settlements and stations of the surrounding country. It is decidedly one of the finest hotels in the province, and is admirably adapted for the accommodation of every class of society ; the arrangements and subdivisions affording peculiar facilities for either privacy or conviviality, and comfort combined. On Friday last, Oct. 29, the landlord, (Mr. Couper), liberally provided a sumptuous repast, and invited all comers to partake freely. Two tables were heavily laden, and about 50 visitors of both sexes sat down to make the best of the good things before them. Previously to this, Cobb's fourhorse coach had literally steamed into the town, freighted with a most efficient number of the Napier Band, and the spirited manner in which they subsequently performed the arduous duties of " keeping the game alive" was warmly recognised by the rush of white muslin and the nimble steps of ( those who were favored with the polka emj brace of their happy partners. The band is truly composed of men of metal, and merit the patronage of the public whenever thej may favor the merry-making musical community with their valuable assistance. The programme of the evening's entertainment was carried out most creditably, and, making a fair allowance for the unusual excitement of the occasion, the whole affair passed off in a manner which bespeaks the capability of the landlord to cater well for all those who may make the "Empire" their house of call. The hotel was thronged all the evening, and upwards of 250 persons must have been present during the night, the dancing never failing, as the band was occasionally relieved by amateur performers.
