Mr. Lyndon's extensive land sale -will take place on Thursday next, 4th inst. Messrs. Routlbdge, Kennedy, & Co.'s sale of draught horses, sheep, and cattle, is announced for to-morrow, at the Meanee sale yards. Napier Athenjetjm.— - It will be seen from advertisement that the next lecture, to be delivered on Friday evening, will be delivered by Mr. Scaly upon the all-absorb-ing subject of " gold." Napier Debating Club. — An inaugural address was delivered on Thursday evening, by the Rev. G. Morice. Mr. W. Marshall in the chair. The address was very interesting, shewing the objects and advantages of such a society. About 20 persons were present, a good many of whom enrolled themselves as members of the society. The meeting closed about 10 o'clock, with a vote of thanks to the chairman. Rifle Match. — According to intimation in last Herald, a rifle match took place on Saturday morning between a ten selected from the detachment Royal Irish stationed here, and the Napier Rifle Club. The match was fired early in the morning, at the military range on the mud flats opposite Onepoto. There was a strong breeze blowing at the time, in consequence of which the firing on both sides was indifferent. The 18th made 252 points, and the Club 211 ; the former winning by 41 points. The two highest scores were made by Capt. Wray, of the 18th.— 35 ; and by Mr. J. Dinwiddie of the Clvb — 34. The match fixed for yesterday did not come off, the incessant rain rendering it impracticable. The English Mail was due in Hokitika on Wednesday next, 3rd instant, and in Wellington on Friday the sth. What date it will reach Napier is a problem yet to be solved. As, for some months back, the I mail has reached New Zealand two days before time, so in this case, the telegrams having come to hand yesterday.
