Colonial Art. — The Yerv' interesting collection of pictures exhibited in the museum during the last meeting of the members, of the New Zealand Institute, on Tuesday evening last, were much admired by the large number of friends and guests of the Society who gathered together in order to witness the delivery by Sir G-eorge Bowen of the inaugural address His Excellency read on the occasion. Those artistic specimens of our colonial talent will be left in the museum a few days longer, and then removed by their respective, owners. We would strongly recommend all lovers of art not to miss this opportunity — not likely to occur again for some considerable time — of seeing those valuable productions of the hands of our best artists. Mr. Barraud's and Mr. Gully's artistic talents are well known throughout New Zealand, and it is not too much to say that Mr. Richmond and Mr. Pox would have made as high a reputation for themselves in art as they have done in politics, had they devoted their whole attention to the former subject. Some of the best efforts of those two gentlemen are now in the museum, and will undoubtedly gratify those having a taste for water color drawings. Mr. Fox's views are mainly of Egypt, Syria, and the Holy Land, taken by him on the spot during his late travels. Mr. J. C. Richmond has a style peculiar to himself, which we much admire, and we feel inclined to give him the palm, so far as the totally distinct gervre can allow of any comparisons being made. — Evening Post, August 7.
