LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
The Editor does not 11014 himself responsible for the opinions expressed by correspondents. Sir, — I hear we are to have, at the Jiast moment, a plentiful crop of candidates for the honor of representing the town of Napier. It puzzles me rather, as I think it will many, to know what ingenious devices can be resorted to in a political sense to obtain votes. Provincial politics are now, in my view, reduced to an examination of the respective merits of publio works. Were I a candidate, I think I should go in heavy for an artesian well for the town without delay ; and I trust no town elector will give his vote without exacting a promise from his favorite candidates that they will insist upon the Executive setting at once about it, without paying too much attention to savants and geologists; and, I may add, without much squeamishness as to the cost. We have got rid of the 'Huntress' now. The amount of six months' expenditure on that wretched old grampus would supply the town with two or three pure, ever-flowing streams of water. Back me up, Mr Editor, and benefit yourself and the whole community by going in stiff for an artesian well. Yours, &c, Pro Bono Pubmco. Napier, March 18, 1867.
