Local Intelligence.
The Weather, during the "week just ended, has been very severe — almost without precedent for the season of the year. A cold souther, with heavy and almost constant rain, has continued since Tuesday with, as yet, no indications of a favourable change. While the rain must have proved a seasonable relief to the parched ground and withering verdure, we fear that the state of our creeks and roads will indicate rather " too much of a good thing."
The Native cases, to which reference was made in our last, 'Karaitiana v. Munn,' have not been decided — the Resident Magistrate having taken time to consider his decision. In the one case, that of general trespass upon native land, we understand that he has submitted the case, as being one of considerable difficulty, to the opinion of the Attorney General.
Separation Fete. — It -will be observed from our advertising columns that a meet-, ing -has been convened for Tuesday nextj with the view, of arranging for a fete, as a time-honoured and appropriate means of inaugurating, and of afterwards celebrating a great and welcome political change, such as that which has taken place with reference to the Hawke's Bay district. The object of this meeting is one which must commend itself to all classes of the community, and we trust that a good attendance and the appointment of a vigorous committee will prove the means of carrying so good an idea into full effect.
