MEETING OF THE PROVISIONAL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of; the' committee , was held on Tuesday, the~£3"r&'inst., at which the following subjects were-;considered.
Mr. Tiffen L.id before the Committee a communication jfrom the Colonial Secretary authorising him to continue the public works now in progress and to make the necessary pajM*«s»ts for the same.
. The el«»9cal division of the new Province into Districts was then discussed and the following resolutions come to upon the suhject«%ithi;a view to laying the same before th^Colonial Secretary on his expected visit.. :; ■■'■.)',. v That it being-probable that the district wi*l ahortjybe visited by the hon. Colonial Secretary and the hon. Colonial Treasurer advantage should be,, taken of the opportunity of proposing to tho3e -gentlemen the boundaries of the electoral divisions, ■which in the opinion of, this committee would be most desirable,— that such members of this committee as may be on the spot on the arrival of the "White Swan," shall form a deputation to wait -upon the Colonial Secretary, and Treasurer upon the subject, — and that the following divisions be those suggested as in the opinion of this committee the most desirable, viz. : —
1. Northern Dicision, — north, by the 39th paTallel of- south latitude; east and south, by the sea • south west, by the Waiohinganga river and road. 2. Napier Country District, — north east, by the Waiohinganga, river and Taupo road ; east, western sliore of Ahum-i harbour to mouth of Meanee fiver, thence to southern boundary of Town of JSapier, thence by the sea to mouth of If garuroro xiver ; south, by river Ngaruroro ; west, Kaweke range. 3. Toicn of Napier, — as defined by proclamation.
4. C/ive, — north, Ngaruroro river to Awanui } ■west, by a line drawn from the mouth of the Awanui to the gorge in the Patangata road, thence by a line to the Tukituki at te Tarere wood, thenco by the Tukituki to Manga-arara ; south, by a line i'rom the mouth of the Manga-arara stream to 3?arairui ; east, by sea coast. 5. Te Ante and JPatavgata, — north, Awanui to IVianga-roa, thence to little Patangata, thence to the soirrc!? of the Manga-o-tai 3fcreain ; west, Man-ga-o-tai from its source to Manga-o-nuku, thence oy Manga-o-nuku river to Waipawa ; south and oast, Waipawa and Tukituki rivers to te Tarere wood, thence by the boundary of the Clive district to the mouth of the Awanui.
6. &ua Tanhcha and Aaranji, — north, by the Ngaruroro river; west, by the Ruahine mountains ; south, by the southern boundary of Hawke's Bay Province ; east, by the western boundary of Porangahau and Waipukurau districts.

. The Committee next enquired into the .state of the public works now in progress, •and requested Mr. Tiffen to take steps for obtaining a supply of labor for the efficient carrying on of the same.
