Commercial Intelligence.

As mentioned in our last, the wool market is firm, and prices have advanced Id. per lb. on last sales. The " Home News"' of the ,16th August gives the subjoined wool report : —

The largest sales of the ysar commenced on the 15th of July, and will close it is generally expected on the 24th August. The quantity already, passed the hammer exceeds 60,000 bales, and judging from the number still remaining, full 75,000 bales -will be catalogued. The intimatiou given in our last report that the attendance of buyers, both fhome and foreign, would be large, and that prices would open at an average advance of Id. per lb. on the opening sales has been fully maintained ; indeed, the prices stiffened gradually for the first ten days, until immediate requirements were satisfied. This tendency to higher prices caused several manufacturers and dealers to go home ; advantage of thi3 was taken to produce lower prices — a result of which was obtained to the extent of about Id. -with a declining tendency ; but the presence of one buyer with free orders for speculation soon told on the market^ this coupled with the reports that had reached the north oC lower prices, brought a good sprinkle i of fresh faces, and prices may be said to have gradually hardened until the opening advance has been more than maintained. Keally good combing clothing flocks have been in great demand for export, and to the competition for foreign account we are entirely indebted for so satisfactory a result, as it must be matter of gratulation to importers and the trade generally that so large a sale shoxdd up to date have been quitted at such even prices.
