The Pilotage. — The office of Pilot being vacant through the resignation of Mr. McKinnon, the applications to fill the same have been, we believe, six in number. The resignation of the late officer has not yet been accepted, owing, we presume, to the disorganization attending recent political changes ; but, by permission of the Harbour Master, the duties of the office are temporarily performed by Mr. John Sim, one of the applicants.

The Waipckektj Punt — This punt will, we understand, in future be worked by Mr. McKinnon, late pilot at Napier. He will prove a very attentive and obliging puntman ; and the shareholders, as well as the public, have been fortunate in securing his services. We trust, ere long, that the Waipurcku punt will be placed upon a better footing — that — political turmoil being over — the government will, by re-imbui'sing the shareholders, convert the concern into public property, and, by further assistance, enable it to be worked upon a more reasonable scale of charges. These are at present greatly complained of. The Weatiiek, during the past two days, lias been very severe. On Thursday forenoon the wind came on from south-east, veering round to south and south-west, blowing very hard. On the night of Tliuivda/, in particular, it blew furiously, with perfect deluges of rain ; the country, we fear, will be flooded in consequence. The barometer has been down to 29 ° , but is now rising.

The Electoral Roil. — The Court for the revision of the Electoral Roll sat on Tuesday last. ~So justices were present beyond the Acting Resident Magistrate. jSTo objections, however, had been made, so that the business was formal. Our Electoral Roll now shews a very large addition to the number oi'persons qualified to vote. Unfortunately, although now ready as regards this District, it must be sent to.Wellington for publication in the Government Gazette before it becomes a recognised document ; but we trust that, as the matter is simply one of clerkship, no delay whatever will be permitted to occur in such publication.
