LATE MRS M. J. LUXTON
FUNERAL SERVICE AT HAWERA
The death occurred at Hawera on Tuesday of Mrs Mary Jane Luxton, aged 74 years and relict of. Mr Charles James Luxton, who predeceased her in January, 1919. She was a devout adherent of the Presbyterian Church and a well-known member of the Hawera congregation. Mrs Luxton is survived by a family of eight children, 30 grand children and five great-grand children. Her Five sons are Messrs T. D. Luxton (Taihape), C. J. Luxton and A. J. Luxton (Waitoa, Waikato), L. W. Luxton (Whakatane) and N. G. Luxton (Matapu). There are three daughters, Mrs F. B. Maunder (Whakatane), Mrs j. Caldwell (Auroa) and Mrs L. Preece (Matapu). Twin sons, Messrs W. and R. Luxton, predeceased their mother.
Born in Castlederg, Ulster, Ireland, Mrs Luxton came to New Zealand as a child and settled with her parents in Canterbury. In 1880 she was married to a son of one of Canterbury’s earliest pioneers. Mr and Mrs Luxton and family moved from Canterbury to Taranaki in 1902 and settled in the Matapu district, later retiring to live in Hawera. Mrs Luxton had a wide circle of friends and was beloved by all who knew ner. For the funeral, which took place at the Hawera cemetery to-day, there was a representative fallowing of relatives and sympathisers from deceased’s late residence in Glover Road. In the absehfce of the Rev. A. G. Irvine, the graveside ceremony was performed by the Rev. K. J. Watson (Normanby). Pall-bearers were Messrs George and John Preece, Harold Finlay, Joyce, P. Henry and W. Cran. Many beautiful wreaths were deposited at'the graveside.
