PATEA CHURCH FLOWER SHOW

ST. GEORGE’S GUILD EFFORT (From Our Own Correspondent) • The tet. George’s Church Ladies’ Guild held the annual spring nower show at the Tatea Town Hall yesterday afternoon when, despite cola showery weather, the display of beautiful blooms attracted a large number of garden lovers fr.om a wide district. Mrs W. D. Knowles’ collection of spring bulbs was an outstanding exhibit, while Mrs W. F. Sheild also exhibited a particularly line collection of spring flowers. Mrs Leslie Hamilton (Manutalii) judged the entries, and the following were the awards: liest collection ol bulbs, Mrs W. D. Knowles 1, Mrs F. Spooner 2; best collection of. spring flowers. Mrs. \V. F. Sheild 1, Miss M. Knowles 2; best collection of primroses and polyanthis, Mrs C. R, Honeyfield 1, Mrs L. Honeyfleld 2 ■ Victorian posy, Miss M. Lowie I and 2; best arranged bowl of assorted flowers, Miss Mi. Knofl les 1, Mrs L. Adams 2; best arranged floating bowl, Miss G. Kelly 1, Miss M. Knowles 2; champion bloom, Mrs Knowles 1 and 2; Mrs L. Hamilton’s special prize for collection of spring flowers, Misses Thasia, Cleo and Beryl Gardiner (equal). Mesdames W. White and G. Lang were flower stewards and afternoon tea was served under the direction of Mesdames C. Beauchamp and L. Honeyfield, the fixtures being controlled by the secretary, Mrs W. Kelly. Good business was done by Mrs L. Adams at a cake stall and by Mrs JPearce and Miss Pearce at a produce stall. During the afternoon songs were sung by Miss J. Cowie, Miss F. Jones, and vocal duets by Dick and Gavin Carey and Frances Jones and Dick Carey. Misses M. and R. Knowles gave steel guitar and whistling items Prizes were distributed by the vicar, the Rev. W. H. Walton, who thanked Mrs L. Hamilton for her services. Mrs Kelly, Mrs Knowles, other work-, ers and performers and all who had helped to make the show a success.
