AIRPORT PURCHASED
Sale of Waihi Road Property to Hawera Aero Club CHEQUE FOR £14,000 PAID A cheque for approximately £14,000 was paid over this morning by the Hawera Aero Club to trustees in the estate of the late Harry Spratt in ex-< change for the Waihi Road property of 196 acres, on which it is proposed to establish what should become one of the largest and most up-to-date aerodromes in the Dominion. All necessary formalities were completed and the club enters into immediate possession, a team of five Public Works Department surveyors already being engaged on the property' laying off the runways. On Monday the “first sod” of the now' aerodrome will be turned when men w'TTI be engaged removing the boxthorn hedges and carrying out other work in readiness for club flying when the Dunlop Field hangars are transferred. In this morning’s final settlement of negotiations the club was represented, in the deal by Dr. W. F. Buist (president),. Mr W. G. Walkley (secretary) and Mr F. W. Horner (representing, the legal firm of Horner and Burns), while the estate was represented by Mr J. Edmondston (solicitor) and the trustees.
