ROAD THROUGH HAAST PASS
MOTORISTS URGE CONSTRUCTION. ADVANTAGE TO TOURISTS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Aug. 15. A deputation from the Otago Expansion League and the Otago Automobile Association waited on Sir Alfred Ransom, the acting-Prime Minister, to-day and asked that the Government should give consideration to the construction of a road through the Haast Pass from Makaroa. It was pointed out that the tourist business in New Zealand was very important and that tourists demanded round tours such as would be provided by completion of this road. If this route was laid down in addition to the Milford Sound Road travellers could go up and down either the east coast or the west coast. The Minister promised to go into the matter with the Minister of Public Works.
Sir Alfred Ransom left Dunedin this morning for Wellington. ■
