BRITISH DRAMA LEAGUE
STRATFORD FESTIVAL OPENS. The Stratford branch of the British Drama League commences its annual festival at Stratford to-night. Eleven plays have been entered, and four will be presented to-night, these including “Distance Relative” (Jacobs), “Escape?” (E. F. Parr), “Be Sure Your Sex Will Find You Out” (Bon) and “Black Night” (Bourne). The judge is Mr Arnold F. Goodwin, of Auckland. Mr Goodwin is one •of the Dominion’s leading authorities on production, stage management, stage design and lighting. He has been for several years in charge of the stage management of the Auckland Little Theatre Society and has recently produced three outstanding plays “The Cherry Orchard” (Tehekov), “Six Characters in Search of an Author” (Pirandello) and “Masses and Man” (Toller). Mr Goodwin is a keen experimenter in stage lighting and design and recently started the first class in New Zealand on Theatre design.
