DISARMAMENT DEBATE
ST. JOHN’S CHURCH INSTITUTE WIN FOR AFFIRMATIVE “Disarmament or Not” was the subject of a debate on Monday night at the regular meeting of St. John’s Presbyterian Church Y'oung People’s Institute. . In view of the recent Italiano-Ethio-pian dispute, the subject evoked considerable interest in the minds of all present. The speakers were:—For the affirmative, Mr., A., lulloch (leader), Miss B. Campbell and Mr. J. Lamb; for the negative, Mr. J. Clapham. (leader), Miss D. Glen and Mr.. D. Lloyd. The judge was Miss M. J. Whitelock, and the chairman, Mr. J. Mortlock. The debate was very evenly contested, the decision being awarded to the affirmative by the narrow margin of two points (245 to 243).. Votes of thanks were accorded to the judge, the speakers, and the chairman. Mr. L. A. Taylor presided for the business meeting, and there was a fair attendance of members. The Scripture reading was taken by Mr. A. Tulloch (Psalm 34). Literary contributions were read by Misses A. Murray and V. Findlater and Mr. Taylor,
