MANGATOKI
Hall Dance
On Monday evening the Mangatoki Hall was crowded to capacity for the inaugural dance in the reconstructed building, and the large attendance must hia.ve been very heartening to the energetic committee which undertook the responsibility for the expenditure of the sum of £2OO in order that visitors and local residents might spend enjoyable evenings witnout being unduly crowded. Members of the committee were hard at work as soon as the new floor had been laid to bring it into good condition for dancing and the result was that a fast and excellent floor was ready for the dancers w r hen they arrived. The hall also was most tastefully decorated with streamers and greenery and these decorations added to the pleasure of those present. tMr E. J. Gifford, chairman of the committee for the last 29 years, extended a hearty welcome to all present and hoped that they would spend a most enjoyable evening, as the committee had clone mil in its power to make this possible. The floor, he thought, was just as perfect as it was possible to make it for dancing. lie expressed the committee's appreciation of the work of the contractor (Mr Ward) and those with him for the long hours they had laboured, sometimes in very wet and cold weather, so that the hall -would be ready on the date advertised. Sincere thanks were due to the ladies of the district who had provided supper. On behalf of the committee he’lhanked all present for their share in making the opening night a success. Mr L. R.
