BRITISH CATTLE SUBSIDY
EXTENSION APPROVED (British Official Wirelflss) RUGBY, June 26. The House of Commons to-day approved the extension by three months of the period during which the cattle subsidy is payable under the Act of 1925. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr W. E. Elliot, explained that the purpose of short term extensions was to enable Parliament to keep the position under close review. “Negotiations for a long term meat policy,” said Mr Elliot, “are proceeding with representatives of the Dominions and the Argentine Governments. In these negotiations they have now got down to the realities of the situation and they are not without hope that a satisfactory agreement will ultimately be reached. Even if such an arrangement were arrived at it could not be put info force at the end of this month, when the subsidy would automatically cease.-”
