Mr H. R. Penny, of Okaiawa, is visiting Auckland. Mr George Barclay, who has been on a holiday visit to AucTiland, has returned to Okaiawa. Messrs W. and A. Cunningham, of Morrinsville, are visiting Manaia as the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Gulliver, Manaia Road. . Mr W. Good, who recently underwent two operations in the Hawera public hospital, has recovered sufficently to return to his home at Okaiawa. Advice has been received that General Sir Andrew Russell, president of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, will visit Manaia to-mor-row and in the evening will attend the annual ball of the Manaia Returned Soldiers’ Association. The death of Major Rlobert John Barnes, a well-known Salvation Army officer, occurred at Christchurch last night, states a Press Association message. Seventy-seven years of age, Major Barnes had been in the Salvation Army for 45 years, nearly 25 of Which he spent at Christchurch. The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Air Walter Hill, who was well known in sporting circles at Petone and Eastbourne, says a Wellington Press Association message. Mr Hill was born at Wellington in 1865 and in later years entered business at Petone and Eastbourne. From 19: to 1931 ho was proprietor of the Tarawera Hotel. He was .a former member of the Petone Borough Council and a member of the Petone Cricket and Bowling Clubs.
