Girls Prefer Skirts
Objection to Trousers (Our Own Correspondent—By Air Alail) LONDON, May IS. An order that women, must- wear trousers. This has come from the International Fencing Federation, and applies to all women who are taking part, in the European championships at Lausanne on June 19 and 20. With AVimbledon tennis authorities worried about the era. of shorts, it is surprising to learn that the six women who will represent Great Britain do not view with faWourl the trousers order. They prefer their kilted skirts or knee breeches and look= on the garment decreed by the International Federation as neither ornamental nor comfortable. “English girls look their best in the swinging 'knee-length skirt., with a smart white jacket,” said Aladame Grave, wife of Captain Felix Grave, the fencing instructor. “It is graceful and smart, and allows plenty of freedom. When this skirt was first worn by our pupils many years ago it was considered daring. It is now thought old-fasliioned.” Aliss G. Nelignn, the British champion, who captains the international team, usually wears a tailored divided skirt with her padded jacket, no stockings, and very light shoes. Others wear knee-breeches, but the favourite wear is still the kilted skirt. All white is the general rule.
