SEASON’S ACTIAHTIES

PLAYERS ON AVAITING LIST

Members attended in large numbers at the annual meeting of the Park Croquet Club held at the Borough Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. The president, Airs A. Murdoch. occupied the chair, and in her report stated that 16 new members were added to the honorary list pending vacancies in active membership, of which three have now occurred owing to the resignations of Art and Airs Exley and Airs J. Hey, all of whom are leaving Hawera. As they were top players and most efficient workers, they would be missed in tlie club. Mis Robinson and Air Barrow had been transferred from honorary to active membership during the year. Thanks were extended to Alessrs Bennett and Sutton for a handsome silver cup for handicap play, to Airs Alartin Smith for a trophy for honorary member’s monthly competition and to Arts Barrow who offered a trophy for intermediate play. The fclub’s representatives for the New Zealand croquet Council silver buttons wore successful in the B and C grades, the winners being Alosdamos Barrow and Dowden respectively. The Campbell and McL’Bowie cup teams both reached the semi-finals in their competitions, the former being runnersup. The balance sheet disclosed an excellent. financial position.

A vote of sympathy with Airs Hall, a former member, in her recent bereavement was passed, members standing in silence. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: President, Airs Harding; secretary, Aliss "J ait; Treasurer, Mrs Chadwick; vice-presidents, Alesdames Alurdoch and Barrow; committee, Atesdames Aleredith, Jackson, Spragg and Crutch. Club congratulations were extended to winners of competitions during the year as follows: —Spragg championship: A grade, Airs Harding; runnerup, Airs Jackson: B Grade, Airs Dowden; runner-up, Airs Henry; Ex ley Cup, Airs Barrow; runner-up, ELxloy. Bennett and Sutton vase, Mrs Horton ; runner-up, Airs Alurdoeli. Handi doubles, grade, Airs Harding and Miss Tait; B grade, Airs Alortlock and Airs Hobbs; honorary members’ points prize, Airs Budge.

It was decided to make a donation as usual to the Hawera Borough Council for the use of the lawns at the Park, and thanks were extended to the caretaker for their upkeep, also to the Borough Council for the use of its room for the meeting, to the lion, auditor (Air H. Collier), and to the “Hawera Star” for notices. A vote of thanks to the outgoing executive and committee terminated the meeting.
