RUGBY TRIAL MATCH
A v. B TEAAIS AT ELTIIAAI. TARANAKI UNION’S DECISION. The Taranaki Rugby Union decided last night to play a provincial trial match, A team v. B team at Eltham on Thursday, At ay 23. The decision was reached in order that players in (he province might have an opportunity to play before the selectors in view of possible nominations for the All Blacks trial match at AA’anganui ten days later. Air J. S. Hickey (Opunake), who was responsible for the suggestion, said in the first instance that two matches ought to be played, one between a B and a C team, from which a team would he selected to meet a likely A team. This would, in his opinion, serve the dual purpose of giving more players a chance of catching the eyes of the selectors and of giving the A team a sterner trial.
The lion. .Tas AfcLeod pointed out, however, that the scheme was not practicable at such short notice. The nominations for the trial match had to be sent in at a date which precluded the. suggestion being put into effect, lie moved that the A v. B trial be played as stated above, and the motion was carried unanimously. TEAAIS FOR AIONDAY.
