In winning the C.J.C. Great Easter Handicap, Princess Doreen certainly' lived up to the fact that for her trainer, T. George, it has been a really “ Great Easter, ’ ’ for the Trenthani mentor has had. a marvellous run of successes during the past week. At Wairarapa on the opening day he won with Debut, Pulojoy and Dareeourt and on the second day with Semper Paratus and Croupier. Also on Monday he won a race at Eeilding with Pulojoy and two at Eiccarton with Might and Princess Doreen, bringing his total over the four days to no less than eight—surely a remarkable achievement. A former prominent jockey, Mr William- 11. 8011, of Levin, died at Levin on Saturday as the result of pneumonia. lie scored successes in many leading events a couple of decades ago. Mr Bell was apprenticed to "Mr Iligliden’s” stables at Awapuni in the days of George Price, with the late Arthur Oliver as first horseman. Among the races he won were the C.J.C. Stewards’ Handicap on Warstep in 1913, the Wanganui Cup on Tiresome in 1913. the North Island Challenge Stakes on Pariform in 1914, the Wellington. Stakes on Flying Start in 1915 and the Winter Cup on King Star in 1917. Deceased was a. brother-in-law to -Boy, Ashley and the lale Con Bead. One to Remember.

Although beaten by' Severe at Feilding in his only start, Finnesko was by no means disgraced, for had he not found difficulty in handling the turning track, he may have troubled the Awapuni fitly. A big long-striding gelding.- Finnesko impressed the writer as being a likely Winner amongst firstclass company in later life, for lie should develop into a fine galloper.
