ANZAC DAY ARRANGEMENTS

SERVICE AT MEMORIAL ARCH. ALTERATION MADE IN TIME. The Anzac Day service at Hawera on April 25 will follow the same form as that held last year, although proceedings will take place in the afternoon' instead of the morning. This decision was reached at a recent meeting convened by the Mayor (Mr J. E. Gampbel) and attended by representatives of the Hawel-a branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association and the Hawera Ministers’ Association.

The service will commence at 2.30 o’clock at the Memorial Arcli in Princes Street. Returned soldiers and defence units will parade at the Winter Show buildings! at 1.45 o’clock and will march to the service via Princes, High, Union and Nelson Streets. Following a hymn, a Scripture reading and a prayer at the arch the Mayor will deposit a wreath, after which other persons may place emblems in memory of the fallen. It is hoped that all wreaths will contain some poppy emblems.

After the wreaths have been deposited, a firing party will fire three volleys and “The Last Post” and “Reveille” will be played by members of the Hawera Municipal Band. The singing of tlie National Anthem will conclude the service.

On th& afternoon of Anzac Day members of the Hawera Womens’ National Reserve will entertain returned soldiers at afternoon tea in the Soldiers’ Club. POPPY DAY APPEAL. (To the Editor). Sir,—The Returned Soldiefs Association are making their annual Poppy Day appeal on Thursday next (April 18), the proceeds of which will provide assistance to needy returned soldiers, many of whom are disabled as a result of war service.

With a full knowledge of the measure of relief this fund has provided in the past, we commend the appeal to every citizen for whole-hearted support and request that poppies purchased he worn on Thursday and again on Anzac Dav.— AVe are etc., .
