Police Raids in Dublin
Republicans’ Houses Searched and Eighty Arrests Made SEARCH FOR ARMS AND PAPERS CROWD CHEERS PRISONERS (United Press Assentation—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 2.0 p.m. to-day. DTTBLIjST, March 26. The police raided and searched many houses of Republicans, beginning in the early hours and continuing all day. It was not until Colonel Broy, Chief of Police, left liis customary supervision of the draw of the Grand National Sweepstake that the news of the roundup leaked out. It is estimated that ■eighty arrests were made, including Donal O’Donoghue, editor of the Republican newspaper “ Anphoblacht,” Peter O’Donnell, an author and a member of the Republican Congress, and Con Lehane, solicitor. Police visited the house of Maurice Twomey, chief of staff of the Republican Army, who was absent, also the house of Mrs Despard, seeking Sean Mcßride, a member of the Republican army staff. Numerous parties of detectives employed stated that they -were searching for arms and treasonable documents. The arrested persons were lodged at Bridew'ell, where a vast crowd gathered, cheering incessantly in reply to the prisoner’s shouts. A strong force of police is guarding Bridewell.
