Appreciation was expressed at the high standard of a report given by Mrs Nelson Linn after her attendance from the annual conference at Wellington and also to Mrs S. Morgan and Miss V. Beech, who represented the Institute on various occasions. Some of the committee members had attended a school tor officers at Eltliam and much helpful information was brought home. Members had also worked hard making toys for the children’s Christmas tree. All social functions had been well attended, especially the flag 500 evenings for the success of which there was a great debt of gratitude to Mr H. Collier, of Hawera. The annual balance-sheet showed a good credit balance after a hard year s work. . ' Tho following officers were elected: President, Mrs A. E. Mahon; presidents, Mesdames. N. Linn and 1 S. Bootten with 36joints, Miss G Beech second' with 34 points, and Mesdames Mahon and Morgan (equal with 21. points): third; Items were contributed by Mis Miles!-and Miss E- Beech. _ Hostesses for the evening were Mesdames S& W. and J. Carlson and Miss I. Carlson.

The arts and crafts circle formed m- May had a wood membership and the work covered raffia sandwich baskets, tinfoil pictures, pen painting. The trading stall had been a success and brought in a small revenue for general funds. Ih e social committee was formed m August and its first duty was to organise the birthday party. This committee hdd a flag 500 and dance to start a fund to purchase a piano. Other social activities included a farewell party to the first president (Mrs Webber), a garden party and a social afternoon. 0 phe report referred to the resignation of Mrs, Webber as president on account of leaving the district. Mrs Collier ,after some, persuasion,- was nominated as president, but through ill health was unable to carry on. Mrs Thomas acted as chairman until Mrs Shaw was elected as president in AugTbe outgoing committee wished to express tlieir gratitude to all those who- have assisted the institute during the past year.
Among the samples of coat hangeis quilted was a dainty one for a bride’s gown and decorated with horse shoes and orange blossoms. Another was worked 1 on a pretty green marocain. Miss Blake and Mrs Cleaver were accorded a vote of thanks for their demonstrations. Later competitions will be held for tho best articles in quilting and tatting. A competition for the heaviest crop dug from three potatoes was won by Mrs King, who scored 23 pounds- of potatoes by having cut her three potatoes into a total of 33 -pieces Mesdames Everitt and Mischefski wore hostesses for the afternoon.
