Mangatoki Meeting

Tiier© was a; good attendance at ifche annual 'meeting of the Mangatoki Women’s Institute, held on WedMrs A. ID. Mahon' presided and there was an attendance of over 40 members. Mrs Spink gained tho highest points for the year in the monthly competitions vith /Mrs Ingram second and Mrs Phillips third. A ballot for the officials resulted as follows: President, Mrs W. It. Shaw ; vice-ipresideufts, Mrs J W. Harding, Mrs R. Thomas; secretary, Mrs F. King (re-elected); treasurer Mrs Villars.j committee, Mesdarnes Pether, A. Murdoch, Pollock Spink, Ingram, G. Harding, Spiagg, E. Frisk, Gilliver, W. o’’Brien. Mrs Pether was elected secretary of monthly competitions and Mrs Surrey, to be in charge of the trading stall. The annual report stated that the institute began, the year with 70 on tho roll. During the year 11 members left the district and eight new members joined up, leaving 67 to commence the New Year. There had been 11 monthly meetings, with an average attendance of 45, and ten committee meetings. The visitors’ hook recorded 32 members from neighbouring institutes and from as far as Christchurch, Wainui-o-Mata, Foxton, Welkngton Federation, Woodhill, Havelock and Takapuna and Morrmsville. The monthly competitions had been very interesting, hut not very well supported, the most entries for one single month numbering only seven. Demonstrations had been given on rug-making, lamp shades, leather work, glove-maliing, tatting, seagrass stools,* quilting and paper flowers. In-1 coresting half-hour talks had included j historical events or*, the early days. Indian women and children, visit to Australia and ib/eVminutc talks 'by the Turitown members. Delegatee had attended group meetings, district and Dominion federation meetings, school for officers anc ac thereby gained useful knowledge. Members assisted in selling poppies on Poppy Day for the R.S.A. and made soft toys- for the children in hospital at Christmas time as well as visiting the hospital.
