The abattoir strike, which has jiow lasted three weeks, has already" cost the State about £78,000. The strike is having a serious effect on the chilled meat industry, for five ~ ships have been turned away without freights. Tho stoppage of supplies of chilled beef in the early stages of the development- of this trade is expected to do inestimable damage in the United Kingdom, where a guaranteed continuity of supplies is essential.
