OPENING DAY TO-MORROW SPLENDID FIELDS ENGAGED PROSPECTS OF CANDIDATES. (By “Childers.) Undoubtedly one of the finest country meetings in New Zealand, the Te Aroha fixture opening to-morrow promises to be well up to the usual standard, and patrons arc assured of a splendid day’s outing. Splendid fields are engaged in the various events and very few scratcliings are anticipated. 11.50 RUAKAKA HURDLES. Of £175. About one milo and a-balf. Imperial Prince has not started since winning at Taumaranui in October and both he and Brown Abbey should be all the better for the race. Val Watch usually races well fresh and is preferred to Ruling and Record Flight. Luminary is handily treated and may spring a surprise. Most rupport may be forthcoming for EMANCIPATION, YAL WATCH and IMPERIAL PRINCE.

Dubarry has not started since winning at Takapuna in the spring. Teak may do best of the others. The favourites may be FLEETWIND. GAY SHEIK and DUBARRY.

Kelly and Person are a smart pair of three-year-okls with a big pull in the weights. It is hard to go past Kelly, for he has yet to run a bad race and looks a first-class kandicapper in the making. This also applies to Fer-

sen. but lie may not be quite up to Kelly’s standard. Caliente likes this distance and has a habit of springing surprises. Aiguille has yet to be tried over this distance, but if he can sec it out will beat more than beat him. None of the remainder appeal. Waihine Reihi won handsomely at Thames and if she has gone on the right way since should be in the money. .A trio in demand may be WAHINE REIHI, TRAY BIT and KING BRIERLY. 3.40
