PLASTIC SURGEON’S FEAT
GIRL’S FACE RESTORED. BRILLIANT NEW ZEALANDER. (United Preiw Association—By Electrlo Telegraph Copyright). LONDON, Jan. 17. A twelve-year-old girl, Cynthia Wilson, whose head and face were so badly smashed in a motor accident that nurses prayed for her death, has been restored to her normal appearance by Sir Harold Gillies ,the New Zealau 1 surgeon.
“It is one of the finest jobs Sir Harold has done,” said the counsel at the Bucks Assizes which granted the girl £IOOO damages and costs. Sir Harold, who is chief plastic surgeon at the Ministry of Pensions Hospital and is attached to other hospitals in a similar capacity, was born at Dunedin. His father was Mr Robert Gillies, M.H.R. He attended Wanganui Collegiate School where he was captain of cricket. He won his rowing blue at Cambridge for which he also played golf. He has represented England at golf. As a plastic surgeon he lias won wide-spread recognition. He is a Knight of the Bath and has been honoured by America and France. He has written standard works on the subject.
