CONVICTS DARING ESCAPE
WARDEN SERIOUSLY HURT. ONE SHOT; FOUR CAPTURED. (United Tresa Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright). NEW YORK, Jan. 16. Five convicts escaped from San Quentin prison, California, beating and seriously injuring the warden. One of the felons was killed by a posse and four others were captured, one of them wounded.
Members of the prison board, one of whom is reported to be injured, were seized by the convicts who, having got out of the cells, were hiding in the prison grounds and waited until officials went to the warden’s house for luncheon following a conference on prison affairs. The convicts, using hoard members as shields against gun fire, fled with them in an automobile.
