A marked increase in the amount of timber exported from New Zealand is revealed in the figures for the first 11 months of last y r ear made available to-day' by' the Commissioner of State Forests, the Hon. E. A. Ransom. He said exports had increased by' 7,000, 000 feet or approximately 30 per cent. Imports increased by' 0,000,000 feet or 00 per cent, compared with the same period last year. Despite the somewhat larger proportional increase in imports, there was a favourable export trade balance of 14,000,000 feet in favour of New Zealand. Exports were 30,074,000 feet valued at £278,070 and imports 15,755,000 valued at £195,520. Imports included 9,000,000 feet of hardwoods which did not actually compete with New Zealand production to any extent. The production of New Zealand timber for the same period was approximately 24,000,000 feet.
