Smoking contests are still held in England l . Rdciently mine host of the Seven Bells Inn, near Roekfort, offered a keg -o'f prime ale to the mian who smoked the most tobacco at a. sitting. Seven men competed foir the prize, each finding his own the landlord 1 supplying the lougelays. There were numerous onlookers. The winner proved 1 to l>e a young farm-labourer who smoked half-a-dozen, full pipes of plug (black as your ha't!) one after the other. He seemed to have had enough smoking when, 'he wais : through! If a smoke contest ever eventuates in N.Z. the competitor who fills up with “toasted” will have an easy win! There are five brand's of this famous tobacco. Navy Gut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Rive-rhead Gold, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), and De'sert Gold. You caD smoke aiiy quantity- of them, because —being toasted—they are practically free from nicotine, besides being unequalled for flavour and bouquet. Also it should be noted that they are not only fine pipe tobaccos, but make excellent cigarettes. —Advt.
