The fog which lay. over South Taranaki yesterday put a stop on aerial activities, and Flying Officer J. H. Buckeridge, who intended to return to Dannevirke by ’plane, was compelled to return from Patea, where he had reached o nthe journey. He left Hnwera at 11 a.m. and at that time the mist was fairly light over the town, but conditions became increasingly worse as he proceeded south. . He tried the low altitudes, but this was of no l assistance as the blanket of mist was ' thick on the ground. At Patea he j climbed to 4000 feet, but even this did not put him into clear atmosphere, so rather than risk losing his way he reached on the journey. He left Hataken up again at G p.ni., but conditions had not improved and a report from Dannevirke earlier in the day indicated that foggy conditions were prevailing there also. Mr Buckeridge whereupon decided not to make the attempt until this morning. He left Hawera at 6.30 a.m. to-day.
