WEDNESDAY COMPETITION

POSSIBILITY OF REVIVAL. The possibility of reviving the Wednesday cricket competition, which was in force at Hawera- a year or two ago, was informally discussed! after the Mokoia-Old Collegians’ friendly match yesterday. It was considered "that little difficulty would be experienced in attracting at least four teams into such a competition. The scheme is to be placed before the South Taranaki division of the Taranaki Cricket Association at the annual meeting and investigations are to be made as to the number of teams available. A team from Hawera will definitely be available and it is considered that another Hawera eleven and teams from Mokoia-Alanutahi and Manaia could be arranged.

OPUNAKE CLUB’S SUCCESS

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

A successful 1933-34 season was reported at the annual meeting of the Upunake Cricket Club, held last Thursday. Dr E. M. Griffin presided, and there was a good attendance of members. However, the selectors were vindicated each time with the result mentioned above.

The club lost one match on a protest, based on a technicality, and any bad feelings engendered by that had been forgotten, it was hoped, by both learns, ongratulations wer© due to M. He was presented with a new bat 'before his departure for Wellington. The Griffin Cup was won by Haddock with 367 points, Burgess (304 pointsj being runner-up. The annual ball held in January was again a success, and the efforts of the ladies’ committee deserves special mention and the club’s appreciation. The club desired to thank those who helped it.
