MANNERISMS ON COURT
TENNIS CHAMPION DEFENDED LONDON, Aug. 1. “Fair play please for a' national hero” are the headlines in the “Star” defending the tennis champion Fred Perry against “bricks in bouquets” as the result of criticisms of his court manners. The “Star” says why should a virtue in Borotra be a. vice in Perry? Is it because Borotra is more graceful? If Perry, in a self-condemnatory mood, jerks his racquet and then expresses delight at a fluke, it is proof that he is not a. hypocrite and aping more placid men. It is undeniable that Perry is a little ostentatious, but the devil in him makes him one of the finest of fighters He is unaware that the crowds who admire his play deplore his antics. If he donned, a mask he would lose his grip on the game and would not be a champion.
