Second round: Baroness Levi of Minden (Nevada) defeated Miss Betty Nut_ hall, 6 —4 6 —4; Miss Helen Jacobs (U.S.A.) defeated Miss Jane Sharp (Pasadena, California), 6—4, 6—l; Miss Stammers defeated Mrs Marjorie Painter (Dedham, Massachusetts). I—6, 6—4,11—9; Mi ss Ryan defeated Miss Norma Taubele (New York), 6 —4, 6—B, 6—l; Miss James (U.S.A.) defeated Mrs John Van Ryn (U.S.A.), 6—2, 6—B, 6—l.
