May 7. - The “Evening News” says that i; LILA, gunmen tried to blow up the war memorial in Armagh City. Before Taybiean they crossed the frontier m a ear, wringing hand mines. They called at the house of Dr. Woods, telling him that he was wanted at an urgent ease and then, covering him .with revolvers. compelled him to stand by during the explosion lest the gunmen were injured. Tlie granite steps were destroyed. Another mine failed to explode, leaving the great figure of Victory undamaged. The explosion rocked Armagh, rousthe inhabitants. Police who .attempted to communicate with the frontier guards found the wires cut and the gunmen escaped.
