HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING

ELTHAM SCHOOL DISTRICT BIBLE IN SCHOOLS QUESTION. There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of Eltham householders last night, approximately 140 being present. The Mayor (Mr I. J. Bridger) was voted to the chair. The c-hairman' of the outgoing committee (the Rev. R.vburn) read the committee’s annual report, and Mr. A. R. Kemp (secretary) read the financial •statement, which revealed that the expenditure exceeded the income by approximately £3O. The Bible-in-schools question was one of the main topics for discussion. Several speakers both for and against the proposal expressed their opinion in very certain and definite terms, but. it seemed quite evident that a majority of those present were in favour of the matter being given a. trial in the school. The’following committee was elected : The Rev. R.yburn, Messrs H. Mehrtens. T. Glass, F. L3’nch, F. Muggeridge, A. Towers, Airs. Clifford Jones, Major Perry, and Dr. Saunders. All members of the new committee, with the exception of Dr. Saunders, expressed themselves in favour of the Bible in schools ' At a subsequent meeting of the com-| mittee the Rev. Ryburn was elected i chairman and Mr. F. Lynch (secre-j tary) . 1 Mrs. Jones and Mr. F. Muggeridge were appointed to the dental clinic committee.
