WOMEN’S DIVISION

AI'ERIEAI ER E-OH ANG AT The Mercinerc-Ohangai Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held its annual meeting in tho Ohangai HaJl on Tuesday afternoon last. Almost all members were present. Mrs Meuli, South Taranaki organiser of the W.D.F.U., presided. Mrs Frahm .(secretary) read the bal-ance-sheet, showing expenditure to £l3 17s 2d, receipts £2O 19s 6d and cask in bank £7 2s 4d. Donations received were 2s- from members, 5s from Mrs Sheehan, 14s -6d from Meremere Dairy Factory Company, and £2 8s 011 an iced cake made and donated by Mrs Frahm. Donations from the division were £1 to the community chest, IQs to Flock House, and 10s to- the Lied Cross for the Russian girl appeal. Mrs Williams then read the annual report, which stated that on July 4, 1933, the branch held a birthday, about 60 people being present, and had a display of different articles. The birthday- cake was made and iced by Mrs Frahm. In August the branch had a series of study groups of cooking and dressmaking, 'conducted by Aliss McMillan. These classes were very interesting and muck appreciated. Through, out the year many demonstrations were given in glove-making, rugs made from waste material, lampshades, the icing of cakes, the arranging of flowers and making bouquet-s and posies, and lectures by Mrs O’Callaghan (horticulture) and Aliss Corrigan; also competitions in cooking and articles made from -sugar bags. A prize was given to either boy or girl of the Aleremere and Ohangai Schools for white butteriiy collections. Jim Davidson, of the Aleremere School, came first with 4950 and Alelva Trilford, of the Ohangai School, won with SSBI. The president spoke of the busy time- the secretary had had in assisting with the work of the Country Queen. In conclusion she said she would like to thank the retiring secretary. Her role had been an extremely busy and strenuous one for most of the work fell on her. The treasurer, who had been far from well for some time, had to bo excused from her duties. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs G. W. Williams ; secretary, Mrs John Kerrisk, treasurer, Airs J. Kerrisk, junr.; vicepresidents, Alesdames Robertson, A) allace, Elmes. Dyson and Dalton. Mrs Frahm briefly thanked Airs Kerrisk and Airs Williams for tributes to her services. Airs Frahm then spoke on behalf of Aliss Washer, the Country Queen, thanking all who had helped to make the euchre party and fanc.v Irons ball a -success. Throe p-rett.v oosies were made bv ATrs J. Kerrislc on behalf of the members, and presented to Airs Williams (president), Airs Frahm (secretary) and Airs J. Kerrisk junr. (treasurer), by Airs J. Robertson, senior vice-president., who jongratnlated the three officers and said” all the members appreciated the work that had been put through for the branch. FOOTBALL CLUB SOCIAL On 'Tuesday evening the Ohangai Football Club' held a. ciichro party ami dance. Owing to the inclement weather only ten tables were in use. Mr J. KerriWk, president of the club, prosen ted the prizes. Miss Fralim won the ladies’ prize with 9 games and Mr 1. Oartineii won the gout’s with S games. A dainty supper was served by the voting ladies. The music for the dance was supplied by Kerrifik Bros., and Mr 0. O'nnniingham carried out the duties >f M '°' TENNIS CLUB. On Friday evening the committee of the Tennis'Club hold a flag 500 social in the Ohangai Hall, the first that lias been held this season. The winner*, with 19 flags, were Misses L. Elmes md M. Vincent and Messrs J. 'lrilford and R. Tonga. The consolation prizes were won by Misses I. Elmos and S. McCarty and Messrs Gordon Kerr isle and J. Hinga. Supper was served by Die ladies’ oommittee, Misses Elmes, Frahm, Vincent, Harding and O’Shea.
