A letter has been received by 'Mr Aston. president of the New Zealand Royal Society, from Lord Rutherford, indicating that he would be glad to accept the award of the first, summer-time medal and .prize. 'ln a footnote he recalls that the New Zealand 'lnstitute published his first research, the magnetisation of iron by high frequency discharges, in 1894. He says: “'Please convey to the members of your Royal Society my sincere and grateful thanks for this signal honour to an old Now Zealander. ’ ’
