KAKARAMEA SPORTS AND SHOW

LARGE PURHO PATRONAGE!

WELL-FILLED COMPETITIVE EVENTS. Between 700 and 800 district residents and viistors from Hawera, Patea, Waverley and Wanganui attended the annual sports meeting and show, held at Kakaramea yesterday, under the auspices of the Kakaramea Sports and Agricultural Association. Bright sunshine prevailed and the facilities provided 'in (Mrs Lorcl".s iipaddcjck, the venue of the sports, were sufficient- inducement for the majority of the patrons to picnic in the open. Over £3O was taken at the gates and represented a considerable increase on the meeting held last year. A varied pro-' gramme of 32 events called for most efficient organisation on the part oi the committee under the direction of the president. Mr K. Carmichael, the vice-president. Mr J. S. Watt, and the secretary ,Mr O. P. Lord, and so strictly did they adhere to the schedule that the final* event was completed gefore 5 o’clock. All the live-stock and ho-nse events were well filled, and the judges expressed entire satisfaction at the standard of the animals exhibited, some of the best jumpers _in South Taranaki being seen in action. The judges were: Heavy horses, Mr A. Hunter (Hawera); jumping and hack vlasses, Mr 0. Gordon (Wanganui); trotting events, Mr A. Pear A (Kafcaramea) • calves. Mr H. F. Wren (Tokaora).' Mr C. Le Campion (Hawera) ifdtedj aisi trottinlg lhaiwficappeij and) started and Mr Pearoe had charge of the athletic events.

During the afternoon a programme of music was rendered by the Hawera Highland Pipe Band, under the oonductorshio of Drum-Major J. R. Nairn and in the evening a dance was held in the Kakaramea Hall, where the music was provided by Wills’ Melodymakers Orchestra. Trophies won during the day .were presented by Mr Carmichael, who said that the meeting ha'd been most successful from every ppint of view and reflected credit not only upon the officials and others who had .assisted in various ways in matters of organisation, but upon tho public for its generous support.
