OPENING R ATES HELD (United Vr'-.sf Association —By Electric Telegraph Copy riglit.) LONDON, March 7. At the wool -sales 73-04 bales were offered, including 3949 from New Zealand and 5938 were sold. There was keen home and Continental competition, especially for finer Merinos. The opening rates were fully maintained. New Zealand prices.—Scoured Merinos, HM Oxford, top. 32d. average 30c];- greasy half bred, Boscobel, top 191 ri. average 17 7-Bd. The wool houses describe the competition as brisk, especially from Germanv and home buyers. Dawsons pre-dict-better times for producers of lower grade crossbreds.
Tim New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received' the following advice from the firm’s London house, dated March <> • “Wool sales: There was a lull attendance at the opening of the sales to-day, competition by Home and Continental buyers being fairly active, ihe opening catalogues were not representative. AiS compared with closing rates at the last sales, prices are lower bv id nor lb fo-r greasy Merino, and by |d to l.d per. lb. for scoured crossbred slipe.”
