An attractive programme of musical numbers has been prepared for the annual recital toy pupil's of Miss Joyce Dix, to be held in, the Foresters’ Hall, Haw era, on Monday, December 11. The items will include piano solos and duets, songs and part songs' toy boys and toy girls. ITawera residents atoout 10 o’clock last evening observed the glare of what appeared to 'be a large fire in the direction of Ghangai. Inquiries, however, failed to confirm t'he nature of the outlbreak, but this morning it ,was ascertained that fire had taken hold of a portion of push in the back country beyond Meremere and that the flames, fanned by a brisk southerly breeze, iiluminaWd the countryside last evening for a considerable distance. Apart from the destruction of tne bush no damage resulted.
