TALKIE ATTRACTIONS

OPERA HOUSE. "PJBG Q’ MY HEART.” Marion Davies gives the finest performance of her career in the delightful “Peg o’ My Heart,” which was screened to-day at the Hawera Opera House, when it opened a season of two nights and two matinee: sessions. The talking picture version of the play that has been acclaimed in the theatre for more than 20 years has a freshness and sparkle all its own. There is not a lagging moment or a flaw in the simple clarity of its sweet romance. Miss Davies’ Peg is an individual. Yet her interpretation of the role is none the less gennine and familiar in character. All the hoyden charm of the little Irish lass is intact. The film marks the debut as a leading man of Onslow Stevens. He has a distinct personality of his own that registers strongly in a quiet and repressed manner of performance. Others in the cast of the Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer feature are J. Farrell MacDonald, Juliette Compton, Irene Browne, Tyrrell Davis, Alan' Mowbray, Doris Ulovd, Robert Grieg, Nora Cecil and Geoffrey Gill. Michael, the dog in the film, captures honours all his own. Seats may be reserved by ’phone at Miss Blake’s, 2713.

GRAND THEATRE. DOUBLE STAR PROGRAMME. “The World and the Flesh,” which screens to-night and on Monday at the Grand Theatre, is a George Bancroft starring picture. He appears as the strong man of the moment, who rules a revolution-rocked land with, the powerful hands of a ruffian king. Actual scenes of a hockey match, ice carnival, six-day -bicycle race, boxing bouts and wrestling matches are shown in Paramount’s “Madison Square Garden,” which will be presented on the same programme. Jack Oakie. Marian Nixon, Thomas Meighan, William Boyd, ZaSu Pitts, Lew l Cody and William Collier, Sr., head the .featured cast. Chaper eight of “Heroes of the West” will also be screened. 1
