TENNIS SEASON OPENING

On Saturday afternoon the Auroa tennis courts were opened for the new season under good weather conditions. There was a good attendance, visitors being present from Otakeho, Awatuna and Rowan. The president, Mr Freyne, extended a welcome to visitors and wished neighbouring clubs a happy future. On behalf of the visitors Air D. Lind, of Awatuna, reciprocated greetings to the Auroa club.
Tho scores in the- afternoon’s tournament were as follows :
First round.—Air P. Symes and Aliss Putt (21) defeated Air Fail-brother and Aliss Mourie (18); Air A. Webby and Aliss N. Bayliss (2-1) defeated Air L. King and Aliss Lilley (9); Air D. Lind and Airs Bell (21) defeated A£r J. Lines and Aliss AY'ebby (11); All* R. Ord and Aliss Schwieters (21) defeated Air L. Lines and Aliss M. Bayliss (16); Air L. AYest and Miss A 7. King (21) defected Air J. Deegan and Aliss AYest (19); Air R. Dempsey and Aliss O’Dea (21) defeated Air G. Cuff and Aliss Al. Lee (14); Mr B. Johns and Aliss A. Lee (21) defeated Air F. AYest and Aliss Schwieters (21) defeated Mr B. Johns and Airs Bell (19). Semi-final. —Air A AVebby and Aliss O’Dea (21) defeated Mr R. Ord and Aliss Dempsey (18). Final.—Air A. AA 7 ebby and Aliss O’Dea (21) defeated Air L. AVest and Aliss Schwieters (14) To celebrate the opening of the season a dance was held in the hall on Saturday evening. There was a fair attendance. Dance music was supplied by Alisses O’Dea, Lilley, AYest and Aiessrs. B. Eliason and M. AVlialen. Some visitors were present from Kapuni. The duties of AI.C. were carried out by Aiessrs J. Freyne and B. Eliason. On behalf of the members of the tennis club Air Fail-brother handed to Air Freyne a smoker’s outfit and to Airs Freyne a pair of crystal vases, wishing them a happy life and tendered them some “fatherly’l advice for domestic bliss. _ Air Freyne suitably replied and said that his work with the club had been made easy by the co-operation and help of members.
