WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

MANGATOIvI A 1 FETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Alangatoki Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday evening, Airs Alorgan (vice-president) presiding over an attendance of 36 members. A 'flag 50Q held during the month proved successful, realising £1 7s 6d, this amount being divided between the institute funds and the Christmas tree funds. Alesdames A. E. Mahon, S. Alorgan and C. Carlson were elected to assist tho school committee in finalising arrangements for the children’s Christinas tree. It was arranged to have a working bee at Airs Morgan’s residence on November 21. Two interesting demonstrations were given, by Mrs Gallon on silk art work, and Airs Jackson on soft toy making. The competition for a Christmas j novelty made for less than Is was won Iby Aliss I. Carlson, with Alis ; s PParker second and Aliss Vera Beech third.

Another written competition was won by Aliss E. Beech after tieing with Aliss Davies.

Hostesses for the evening were Airs Astbury and Alisses Gould and Rowntree.

OPUNAKE ASSEMBLY

The monthly meeting of the Opunake Women’s Institute was held on Friday afternoon, Airs AY. A. Laing presiding over a good attendance. An interesting lecture on wool work was given by Airs Rumball. Cures for rheumatism was the subject of a debate in which all members took part. A vote of thanks was accorded Airs Rumball. Afternoon tea was served by tlie hostesses.
